The Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (SNAE) 1902-1904

In his introduction to the 1992 publication of The log of the Scotia, the late Peter Speak of the Polar Research Institute called it “the most successful of the smaller polar expeditions…It produced scientific results of the highest order as well as discovering new land on the Antarctic continent”. The meticulous planning and courage of the members of this expedition went largely unrecognised. The SNAE is an ongoing theme which still engages me.
