Rounding the headland

Oil on canvas – 42 x 42cm – Sold

The captain’s log details the problems encountered while attempting to round a headland on the way to Buenos Aires where they were headed in order to pick up enough provisions to see them through the Antarctic winter. Because of a north-east wind it took them five days of ‘beating to and fro in an aimless fashion’
