Blizzard on Saddle island
Oil on canvas Framed - 67 x 67cm

I came across a photograph of members of the SNAE standing in front of the Scottish flag on Saddle Island in the South Orkneys. They landed there on 4th February 1903 – their first stop in Antarctica.
The meteorological laboratory that they established on nearby Laurie Island – now the Orcadas scientific station – is the oldest weather station in Antarctica
Inspired by an entry from: The log of The Scotia (William Spiers Bruce)
